Our kindergarten program is designed to help every child become a reader and a writer. Alphabet recognition, phonics, concept of word, and beginning spelling skills are taught daily in small and large group settings. The PALS screening is administered in the fall, winter and spring to identify the student’s reading skills and plan instructional goals. Handwriting is taught using a variety of writing materials and practiced through daily journal entries. Math is a hands-on event, as the children learn number concepts, number operations, and problem solving skills using manipulatives. “The God of Creation” is our bible study theme that incorporates Old Testament and New Testament stories to teach love, obedience, and good choices. A weekly bible verse is presented for memorization. The day is rounded out with center play time, outdoor play, family style lunch, nap/ rest time ,social studies and science lessons.
